Cake By The Numbers

Slices are made for sharing.

Table for one, please:
Visiting Lady M solo on a weekday afternoon is one of our favorite things to do. It feels like a combination of decadence, much needed quiet time aka self-care, and good cake... all rolled into one. We love doing this at the Upper East Side location when in NYC and often bring a book (more on this coming soon).

Our go-to order for these solo visits? Strawberry Shortcake because it is most comforting. Soft and plush featuring a trio of three classic elements: vanilla sponge cake, whipped cream, and fresh strawberries. With a cake this simple, the quality of every element becomes most important, and we are happy to let that shine through.

In the fall, we love to pair the Strawberry Shortcake with a warm London Fog. London Fog is essentially an Earl Grey tea latte. The fragrant bergamot notes from the Earl Grey pairs with and brings out the sweeter notes of the ripe strawberries. An unexpected delight. We treat ourselves most when we come on our own :)

Coming in with a friend:
Tables for two are the most popular at our boutiques and it's easy to see why. Lady M is a fun spot to get together a friend, catch up on life, or just share a love of (or craving for!) cake. This is how we usually order when we visit with a friend: one Signature Mille Crêpes cake (because you always need one classic) and one seasonal cake. We have a fun line-up for the month of May... if we had to pick one to complement Signature Mille Crêpes we'd go with Chocolate Arc-en-Ciel. Also fondly known as the "rainbow chocolate cake," this cake is the complete opposite of Signature Mille Crêpes so you can get a taste of both vanilla/light/ethereal and chocolate/dark/rich.

To drink? Cappuccinos all around! Something about all the froth and foam makes cappuccinos feel so light and dainty, a perfect go-to at your table for two.

Bringing mom and dad:
Lady M is always on our list of places to take mom and dad when they come to visit (aka check out how we're doing in life!) We like taking them here because it's gracious and feels elegant and special without costing us a fortune, though we try to squeeze in one fancy dinner on each visit! Our order list? One Signature Mille Crêpes, a slice of Green Tea Checkers (a spring favorite) and the fabulous Banana Mille Feuilles.

Banana Mille Feuilles gets all the oohs and ahhs simply because it's such a towering, and visually stunning cake. Plus who doesn't love a mix of bananas, cream, cake, and all those golden, flakey mille feuille layers. This is a good trio of cakes and shows a condensed spectrum of Lady M's offerings. Make sure to mix it up on the drinks as well. Perhaps tea for mom, espresso for dad... and hot chocolate for yourself if you're feeling decadent!

The more, the merrier:
This is the best excuse to get one of every. single. flavor. of. cake. We usually have at least three Mille Crêpes flavors available on any given day, a mix of the classic flavors and seasonal specials (Salted Caramel Mille Crêpes is the seasonal flavor for May). Plus, our  signature collection includes classics like Checkers and Gateau aux Marrons.

We often hear about how hard it is to select *just* one flavor. The solution? Come with a group of friends/family and have them all.

P.S. Make sure to check out our Tea and Cake Pairings.

Till next time,
Lady M
