Every Grain Of Rice - Fuchsia Dunlop

We just finished reading The Outsider by Stephen King last week (which we announced as a book club pick back in September)...and those eerie chills have not gone away! This book dives into the darker supernatural world and has enough of a "real life" touch to keep you wondering long after you've finished the novel. This book was rich with notable quotes, here are a few of our favorites.

On dreams:
Dreams are the way we touch the unseen world, that’s what I believe. They are a special gift.
On reality:
Reality is thin ice, but most people skate on it their whole lives and never fall.
On the world as a whole:
There's... a force for good in the world. That's something else I believe. Partly so I don't go crazy when I think of all the awful things that happen, I guess, but...also...well the evidence seems to bear it out, wouldn't you say? Not just here but everywhere. There's some force that tries to restore the balance.
This month we're heading off the usual route...instead of novel, we've selected a cookbook! Our whole Lady M team loves to eat and cook so it was just a matter of time :)

We've been traveling a lot and the highlight of any trip is exploring local restaurants and home cooking from our friends. On these travels, we also get great recommendations and this month we’re exploring Fuchsia Dunlop's cookbooks... which we are loving! Chime in with any favorite recipes, and we'll pick one to feature for our November recipe post.

Dunlop is an English author and teacher, well respected for her amazing knowledge of Chinese cuisine. She also happens to have a very fun Instagram account. While some of her books explore specific regions of Chinese food (Sichuan! Hunan! Shanghai!), she is especially loved for Every Grain of Rice which covers basic Chinese cooking. The book was a James Beard award winner, and it only takes a quick flip through the book to understand why.

We're also going to tie this book into our monthly recipe post (coming up soon :) - we'll pick a simple recipe from Every Grain of Rice to prepare and pair with our cake of the month. Stay tuned and eat well!

Till next time,
Lady M
